I just came across this fabulous site called the Nu Project started by Matt Blum of Minneapolis and it has left a smile on my face. I am so happy to see something different out there in female photography. Something extremely honest. What Matt does is completely different than what I do, and it’s refreshing to see. Not that I don’t like having my clients get all dolled up and photographing them. There are many sides to every person, especially women, and it’s wonderful to honor and celebrate all of them.
“The Nu Project is a series of honest nudes of normal women from all over the world. The project began in 2005 and has stayed true to the original vision: no professional models, minimal makeup and no glamour. The focus of the project has been and continues to be the subjects and their personalities, spaces, insecurities and quirks.” (The Nu Project website). Thank you Matt for creating this space for women to be completely and absolutely free. I can only imagine how liberating it must be.
Please hop on over to the Nu Project’s website if you have a chance. It helps to normalize our world and shows how real, everyday women actually look. Not something we see very often in our magazines, billboards, and TV commercials.
And since I can’t post without an image, I’ll leave you with one of my favorite images from a couple of years ago. It’s not in the style of the Nu Project since Boudoir in Bloom specializes in a different type of photography for women, but I didn’t want to rip off one of Matt’s images to put on my site. Just check out his work when you have a few minutes to spare – it’s definitely worth looking at and will hopefully give you the same feeling of lightness and liberation that it gave me.
